In this Coffee With Hales episode, I talk with my friend Ashley about raising meat chickens and how they differ from laying hens. She shows her DIY chicken tractor that gets moved daily to fertilize grass and help with bugs and ticks, explains heat lamp needs for younger birds, and shares how meat birds require frequent feeding, drink much more water, and will eat constantly, while laying hens are lower maintenance and can free range. Ashley covers feed choice, an 8-week grow-out timeline, how much feed they go through, and how they process birds at home with a basic setup. We also visit her laying-hen area, discuss breed traits, watering options like a rain barrel system, why they started raising their own chicken, and how it teaches kids responsibility and self-sufficiency.

Manna, Trials, and Resting in Faith (Exodus 16) | Coffee With Hales

In this episode of Coffee with Hales, I continue my series on how institutional Christianity has been pulled into left-right political control, and I respond to a clip from Understanding the Times with Jan Markell about “Laodicean” churches and Israel. I argue they frame churches as apostate for not addressing October 7, equate non–pro-Israel positions with antisemitism or even Nazi Germany, and dismiss alternate eschatology (replacement/fulfillment theology) as coming from figures like Tucker Carlson or Candace Owens. I push back on the idea that Israel is the “true north” for determining someone’s theology or even whether they’re a real Christian, and I say believers should be allowed to ask questions. I cite various articles and examples about Gaza, ceasefires, civilian harm, foreign policy, and intelligence allegations to explain why questions arise, and I encourage viewers to study Scripture and check out Pastor David Curtis for a non-dispensational biblical perspective.

Has Government Hijacked Evangelicalism? Politics, Propaganda, and the Church
 
In this Coffee with Hales commentary, I argue that large Protestant evangelical movements have been hijacked to keep Christians invested in a right-left political illusion and pressured to see voting—often for a specific party—as biblically mandated. I use Sheridan Church in Oklahoma and Pastor Jackson Lahmeyer’s “Pastors for Trump” involvement as an example, including his defense of the White House Office of Faith and Paula White, the church’s ties to Trump-world figures, and messaging around Islam, Sharia law, and persecution. I also critique how end-times Zionist/dispensational frameworks and accusations around replacement theology are being used to police who counts as a “real” Christian, contributing to people leaving evangelicalism. My goal is to zoom out, recognize propaganda entering churches, and encourage personal responsibility and deeper engagement with scripture.

Is Voting a Biblical Mandate? Why I’m Opting Out of the Left/Right Illusion.

Why I Started Gardening (Exit & Build + Backyard Chickens)

That grew into chickens for eggs (and an egg stand), then buying meat locally, getting raw milk from a small farm, and applying an “exit and build” strategy to other areas like banking and entertainment. If you feel overwhelmed by constant bad news, I encourage you to “be where your feet are,” focus on what you can control, and take one small step—like a garden—toward more autonomy, healthier food, and a lifestyle rooted in faith and creation.

Coffee with Hales: How Politics Captured Institutional Christianity

In this commentary episode, I argue that institutional Christianity—especially political evangelicalism/Protestantism—has been captured to manipulate believers into supporting a corrupt system and keeping the powerful in control. Triggered by the White House Easter event, I critique the White House Office of Faith (established February 2025) and its leader, Paula White, highlighting her claims of God-ordained authority, vague Christian buzzwords, and past teachings I view as unbiblical and manipulative. I also examine how the 2024 assassination attempt on Trump was framed to pressure Christians politically, and I react to Easter remarks comparing Trump’s trials to Jesus’ death and resurrection.
